Aftermath

Role:

Executive Producer

Project Description:

Aftermath is a short film adapted from a chapter of Chessy Prout’s award-winning memoir I Have The Right To: A High School Survivor’s Story of Sexual Assault, Justice and Hope. The film portrays the often unseen struggle of a family’s journey in understanding and supporting a loved one who has been victim of sexual assault. The film explores the emotional ripple effects of sexual assault on family dynamics, communication, and collective healing. Premiering at the Athena Film Festival and screening at the Montclair Film Festival in 2023, the film is now used as educational material by the non- profit I Have The Right To Org to communicate the complexity of supporting survivors of Sexual Assault to high school students, teachers, parents and care givers.

Challenges

In my capacity as Executive Producer, I focused on efficiently securing and managing operational and financial resources across all stages of pre-production, production and post-production. Key responsibilities included fundraising over $11,000: Financial pitching and grant writing in pre-production; onboarding crew and editing teams while managing payroll throughout post-production; coordinating catering, equipment transportation, crew and cast accommodation during production. The largest challenge was balancing each of these varying responsibilities while creating and facilitating systems and policies ensuring unity, fairness and a deep sense of community and trust throughout the creative process for all involved in this production with a cast, crew and post-production team of 33 people.

Outcome:

The final film was included for selection in two major film festivals in 2023- The Athena Film Festival and Montclair Film Festival. The film has been seen by close to 15,000 viewers across the United States and is used as educational material in high schools across the country in workshops led by the non-profit I Have The Right To.
